Brainwash 2000 - Break It Down / King Of Demos - 20-Oct-08 11:43 AM
Natalia VN who posted this record inspired me to write a little review cause she couldn't believe I'd rate it only a 2/5. :)
Well, it's good but nothing special, and I feel it's been hyped up a bit much as a underground classic, when it is pretty average in my opinion.
What we have is two tracks of basic underground 90's style of Hiphop. The beats have nice hard drums, and moody Jazz loops, but are pretty far away from the best examples of 90's underground productions, and the MC's are along the style of OGC and Black Moon, but not as good.
Fits well as a filler on a 90's indie Hiphop mixtape, and if you see it cheap grab it for trading purposes as it is obviously kinda rare. An overall average 12".
Surf MC's - Surf Or Die - 03-Oct-08 10:25 PM
This is gonna be a fun review to do. Especially since I've been on here for hours now, and am tired.
Does it get more mediocre than this album!? There was a, thank god, very short lived surfers trend in Hiphop for a sec sort of in the wake of the Beastie Boys, The White Boys, etc, and surfing gear being hot for a minute, so along came the Surf MC's complete with "Surf Or Die" stickers included with the album. What a bonus huh!?
The "music", I won't get into that, just look at the ratings, nuff said? :)
Still, I can't part with this one. It's the kinda album you pull out when asked what's the worst Hiphop album of all time, and this one is actually worse than MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, and even Lil' Wayne.
Obscure Disorder - Lyrically Exposed - 03-Oct-08 04:17 PM
My first review just to try things out, and seems hard to post here with all the limits of at least 75 words, etc, so I doubt I'll review records again here. Anyway..
This Canadian double A side single is one of the best underground 12"s from the late 90's. Nice lyrics, dope beats, and A-Trak rips the cuts lovely, showing he's one of the best Turntablists, and his brother produced this too I believe. Brings back memories of my first shipment from Sandbox automatic before they were a webshop, but just a list of records. Great times, and great record. You need at least two copies of this!
